Cutting edge art and 20th century Brussels history intersect as the city is revitalized, and old becomes new again. This art installation is in the former cellars of the De Coster lambic brewery. It existed here from 1943 until 1966, when Belle-Vue took it over until 1996. It sat vacant for 20 years before the museum repurposed the site.
Ysewijn’s book, Belgian Café Culture, is available again in it’s 3rd printing. Highly recommended if you appreciate the special character of these rapidly disappearing places. Wonderful photos and descriptive writing that transports you to the Belgian countryside.
